Growing companies invent layers between the customer and the people with management. Support often hears the pain, while engineering hears a ticket. By the time a decision is made, the original sharpness is gone.
Pathline is built the other way. The founder still writes software, still takes sales conversations, and still debugs the weird edge cases. That is not a personality brand. It is a quality control system.
Proximity beats process
Process is useful when you cannot be in the room. Sitting on a call where a customer cannot find a call recording teaches more than a quarterly research deck. Fixing a race condition in a worker at night teaches more than a postmortem template filled out by someone else.
Stay close and the roadmap writes itself. Drift away and you start optimizing for internal comfort.
What we refuse to outsource early
- Judgment about what to build. Customers supply the pain. We still own taste and sequencing.
- The hard conversations. Pricing, scope, and “not yet” land better when they come from someone who also ships.
- The production path. If the people deciding cannot open the system, they will decide from their own experience.
If you only meet the product in meetings, you do not know it.
