SMS

Two-way text messaging on your business phone lines. Customer SMS threads live in the same inbox as form submissions, so your team replies from one place.

Get started

  1. Get a business line

    Claim or port a number on Voice. Incoming SMS is included with your line.

  2. Enable outbound SMS

    In Account → My Numbers, turn on outbound SMS for each line you want to send from. Without this, you can receive texts but not reply.

  3. Open Messages

    Go to Messages. SMS threads appear alongside form submissions in your inbox.

Daily use

  • Reply to customers — open a thread and send a text from your business line.
  • Start a conversation — use + in the inbox to pick a contact or enter a phone number.
  • Reply to form leads — form submissions land in Messages; reply by SMS when the person opted in.
  • Share photos — use Share photos in a reply to send a customer upload link. Full-resolution photos are delivered through the link, not as MMS attachments.
  • Organize — move threads to Spam or Trash, mark unread, or restore from trash.

Where to work

The web dashboard at Messages is built for desktop. For texting on mobile, use the Pathline iOS app.

Good to know This covers conversational SMS — one-to-one threads with customers. Outbound SMS must be activated per line beyond your base phone plan. Automated SMS replies from Agents also require outbound SMS on your line.
